Born: 660, Damascus, Syria.
Died: 732, on the island of Hierissus, near Mitylene.
Andrew became a monk at Mar Saba, Israel, and served later at the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. Around 685, he became a deacon at Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. He also ran a refuge that took in orphans and cared for the elderly. In 692, he became Archbishop of Gortyna, Crete.
