Newbolt at­tend­ed St. John’s Coll­ege at Ox­ford Un­i­ver­si­ty (BA 1895, MA 1912), and was or­dained in the Church of Eng­land in 1900. He served at Wan­tage; St. Ma­ry’s, Af­fley; the Mis­sion­ary Coll­ege in Dor­ches­ter (1910-1916); All An­gels, Bright­on (1916-1927); and was can­on of Ches­ter Ca­thed­ral (1927-1946).
