Philip Pusey

Born: June 25, 1799, Pu­sey, Berk­shire, Eng­land.

Died: Ju­ly 9, 1855, Christ Church, Ox­ford, Eng­land.

Pusey’s fam­ily name was orig­in­al­ly Bou­ver­ie, but his fa­ther (son of the first Vi­scount Folke­stone) changed it af­ter in­her­it­ing the Pu­sey es­tate. Phil­ip at­tend­ed Eton and Christ Church at Ox­ford Un­i­ver­si­ty. He be­came a Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment and pa­tron of the arts, helped found the Lon­don Lib­rary, and had an ar­dent in­te­rest in hym­nol­o­gy.
