Born: Jan­u­a­ry 31, 1798, Fal­mouth, Corn­wall. Died: March 7, 1863, Tru­ro, Corn­wall. Buried: Ken­wyn Church­yard, Tru­ro, Corn­wall.

Edward Osler (1798-1863)

Osler be­gan his ca­reer as a phy­si­cian, at Guy’s Hos­pi­tal in Lon­don, and the Swan­sea In­firm­ary. How­ev­er, he quick­ly mi­grat­ed to the lit­er­ary field. For some time he was as­so­ci­at­ed with the So­ci­e­ty for Pro­mot­ing Christ­ian Know­ledge, in both Lon­don and Bath. In 1841, he be­came ed­it­or of the Roy­al Corn­wall Ga­zette, and moved to Tru­ro. His works in­clude:

• Church and Bi­ble; The Voy­age: a Poem Writ­ten at Sea, and in the West In­dies, and Il­lus­trat­ed by Pa­pers on Na­tur­al His­to­ry, 1830
• Psalms and Hymns Adapt­ed to the Ser­vic­es of the Church of Eng­land (with Will­iam J. Hall) (Lon­don: 1836)
• The Life of Lord Ex­mouth, 1857
