He served as as­sist­ant pas­tor of Trin­i­ty Church in Mil­wau­kee, Wis­con­sin (1865); as pas­tor in Grand Ra­pids, Mi­chi­gan (1871-73); and as in­struct­or of Ger­man and French at Con­cor­dia Coll­ege, Fort Wayne, In­di­a­na.
